Community Gardening Day

This spring, students from Growing Up Green Charter School in Jamaica will be using King Manor's garden as an extension of their classrooms, with each grade taking ownership of the beds and planting and tending them throughout the rest of the school year. They have already begun indoor greenhouses for seedlings in their classrooms, and will be planting in mid April. But before they can plant, we need to "wake up" the garden!

We are calling for community volunteers to join us at King Manor for a day of outdoor fun including weeding, soil turning, and other tasks. Many hands make light work, so bring family and friends and make an afternoon of it! Please bring your own gloves if you have them! There will also be some work for children and adults with physical limitations.

No RSVP needed — stop by anytime to help out and find out more about our garden, our compost program, and King Manor’s other green initiatives! All ages welcome!

Our special thanks to Queens Botanical Garden and NYC Compost Project for their support and expertise!
